Leather Leadership Conference's Scholarship Program - FAQThank you for your interest in attending Leather Leadership Conference XVI in Nashville. The Nashville Scholarships are provided from the funds held by the Leather Leadership Conference that were given to the LLC for the scholarships from many different individuals as direct donations. There will be up to ten scholarships given for the Nashville Conference. In the event there are applicants not selected for these national scholarships, an applicant can request that their application be sent to the Southeast Regional Operating Committee (SROC) for consideration for additional scholarships that will be selected by the SROC. The SROC scholarships are provided from funds received from the 2009 Atlanta LLC, with support from the Lloyd E. Russell Foundation. Applications are accepted until January 31, 2012. Those awarded will be notified by February 6, 2011. If you have already registered for the Conference, you can be reimbursed for your registration fee. The application process is confidential.What will my scholarship cover?At this time, scholarships are only covering the cost of conference registration. If donors wish to cover other expenses such a travel, hotel, or any stipend, we welcome those contributions.Who decides who gets a scholarship?The LLC Scholarship Review Panel is made up of members of the LLC Board of Directors and the Local Organizing Committee.When will I know if get a scholarship?Demand will likely exceed available funds. Applications are accepted until January 31st and those awarded will be notified by February 6th.What about the Lloyd E. Russell Foundation Scholarships?After LLC XIII in Atlanta, the Atlanta local organizing committee along with leadership of the Lloyd E. Russell Foundation developed an LLC scholarship program to be administered by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) producing the annual conference. Until 2019, the leaders of the LOC have the responsibility and discretion to distribute $2,000 as additional scholarships beyond those given by the LLC Scholarship Review Panel. People interested in applying for a Russell Foundation scholarship should use the regular application form used by the LLC Scholarship Review Panel.Who will know I got a scholarship?Only the members of the review panel review national scholarship applications. In the case of Russell Foundation scholarships, members of the review panel as well as designated members of the LOC will see application data. In every other respect, you will be registered and participate as any other conference member.For Those Interested in Donating Funds for a ScholarshipThe Leather Leadership Conference, Inc. has established a fund to provide scholarships to help make it easier for individuals to attend the annual conference who might otherwise not be able to do so. With its IRS granted 501(c)(3) status, donations to the scholarship fund are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.How can I make my gift?Contributions can be made directly through LLC's PayPal account using the id "scholarships@leatherleadership.org", or you may mail a check to:Leather Leadership Conference Attn: Scholarship Donations 3403 Nicollet Avenue South, #5 Minneapolis MN 55408 Is there a minimum amount?Contributions in any amount will be accepted. Gifts less then the conference's registration fee will be pooled together. If you are interested in supporting attendance beyond the cost of conference registrations (such as hotel, travel, etc.), please write to scholarships@leatherleadership.org to discuss options.Can I name the scholarship I am establishing?A scholarship fund can carry the name of a donor, family, company, or someone the donor wishes to honor. Donors who prefer anonymity can choose names that reflect their fund's charitable purposes or simply choose no name. Named scholarships must be for at least the amount of conference registration.Can I get to pick who gets the scholarship I establish?No. LLC welcomes the suggestions of non-binding preferred demographics such as gender, ethnicity, geography, orientation (example: "If possible, I would like my scholarship to fund the registration of a lesbian of color from the West Coast"). To establish a scholarship for a specific person would not comply with IRS regulations. |
