My name is Glenda
Rider and that is the name I use in the scene as well. As far as
biographical info goes there is a lot that I can say I've participated
in or created over the last ten years. I date my participation in
the "organized scene" back to the National Lesbian Conference
held in Atlanta in April of 1991. While at that event I attended
a wonderful workshop put on by MP and Jen, a workshop that had to
change venue because soooo many women attended that the assigned
room was way too small. I also attended a great erotica show that
weekend and a private party. Connections were made there which led
to my co-founding Lesborados in Washington, Dec. few months later
and indirectly to my becoming the first woman to hold an Eagle Bar
title as MS Baltimore Eagle 1992.
I've gone on to join many organizations thru the years, starting
a few more along the way and I now serve on the Board of Directors
of the Leather Leadership Conference, Inc. I also co own Play House
Studios in Baltimore with my life partner Sarah Humble. It is 4500
sq ft of gallery and dungeon space that was once open to the public
and is now available for private rentals by individuals or groups.
I also act as the photographer and editor of 'The Leather Link'
in the Baltimore Gay Paper/Mid Atlantic Gay Life, a column written
by Sarah Humble.
I can also honestly say that I've taught more classes/workshops
and judged/helped with more contests than I can remember. I discovered
this when Sarah and I were asked recently to give a presentation
to TALON in NC. The leader asked us to come "tell stories of
our lives and adventures" to their group. He also asked us
to produce a COMPREHENSIVE list of ALL of our BDSM/leather/fetish/etc
activities and our GLBT activist credentials. Once the list was
finished and sent off we spent the next few weeks saying periodically
to each other, "you know we forgot to add.......or ....to that
list we just did for TALON". Now of course, one of the first
pieces of advice I give other leatherfolk who teach, perform, lead
or compete is to keep a running list of your activities so you can
remember them later BUT had I done so myself ?!? I have a lot more
respect for the folks who have to produce C.V. documents in academia
after this experience. That list, which is as of yet not expanded
for all the stuff I forgot, is at the end of this bio.
I've also somehow managed to keep playing and having kinky sex
along the way. I have occasionally suffered from the condition a
friend of mine describes as," letting your briefcase get heavier
than your toybag" but as a rule I try to live by the Play House
motto: Make Play Happen.
